Operation: This procedure raises and reshapes
sagging breasts by removing excess skin and repositioning
the remaining tissue and nipples.
Operation Time (estimate): This procedure
takes about 1 to 3 hours.
Anesthesia/Pain Control: The anesthesia
that can be used is local with sedation or general.
Location: This is usually an outpatient
procedure although depending on the extent of the surgery
it may require some inpatient stay.
Side effects (Possible): Some patients
may experience temporary bruising, swelling, discomfort,
numbness, dry breast skin or permanent scarring.
Complications (Possible): Possible complications
may include thick, wide scars, skin loss, infection, unevenly
positioned nipples, or permanent loss of feeling in nipples
or breast.
Downtime: Patients can go back to work
in 1 week or more and participate in strenuous activities
in 1 month. It will take several months to a year for scars
to fade.
Duration of Results: There is a varying
degree for duration of results. Some of the factors that
affect it are gravity, pregnancy, aging, and weight changes
that may cause new sagging. Results may last longer or be
enhanced when breast implants are inserted as part of the
operation.
